Business Marketing and Entrepreneurship 52.0701

The Business Marketing and Entrepreneurship program is a rigorous three year, Pennsylvania Department of Education approved career and technical education program. This OACTEP program is for students who have a business career plan in the fields of sales, and/or distribution and marketing operations. The program focuses on the process and techniques of direct wholesale and retail buying and selling operations. In addition, this program includes varying emphasis on technical knowledge of products and/or services marketed; related communication, economic, technological and computation skills; and abilities and attitudes associated with human relations. The program may also include management functions associated with owning and operating a business. Students must successfully complete all courses listed below, participate in FBLA, and take the NOCTI. Students will also have the opportunity to receive industry certifications in OSHA and Employability Skills. Any student 18-years or older will also have the option to become a state certified notary.
The Business Marketing and Entrepreneurship program places an emphasis on college and career readiness. The program offers students interested in business a competitive edge through project-based, collaborative learning and the development of 21st Century skills including business management, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, technology, global awareness, problem solving, and communication.

461 – Accounting
1.0 Credit Gr. 10, 11, 12
Accounting is an introductory course designed to provide competency for bookkeeping clerks, bookkeeping for a small business, and accounting knowledge for anyone working in the world of business. It also prepares students for advanced studies in accounting. Students will learn to analyze, compute, and record business transactions, prepare financial statements, and payrolls.
484 - Marketing Essentials
1.0 Credit Gr. 10, 11, 12
Students examine marketing concepts, functions, operations and organizations of businesses from the perspective of a business owner, marketing professional, and consumer. Students will conduct market research, develop a marketing plan, analyze case studies, discuss the latest marketing trends, analyze ethical marketing practices, and understand multicultural perspectives. This course includes advertising elements such as digital, mobile, & social networks, television, magazine, online, and outdoor advertisements. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the marketing mix, including product pricing, distribution, promotion, segmentation, research, and sales. Students will assist in the marketing and advertising of the school store.
490 - The Digital Economy

This course provides an in-depth view of microeconomics with an overview of macroeconomic issues and the impact they have on the marketplace and the digital economy. A look at how Individuals, households, and firms make decisions regarding resource allocation is analyzed. Topics such as decision-making, demand-and-supply, market interaction, business cycles, and monetary and fiscal policy will be discussed.
491 – Employability Skills

This course looks at various areas of employability skills. It helps students to develop the fundamental skills employers require to maintain a well-trained workforce. It addresses key employability issues and offers participants a pathway to a secure and rewarding future. The areas covered are communications, teamwork, personal development, health and safety, technology, and quality.
480 – Business and Personal Law
1.0 Credit Gr. 11, 12
This is fundamentally a business law course that also contains topics in personal law. It covers contracts, criminal law, consumer law, wills, estates, marriage and divorce, property law, employment law, cyber law and more. It deals with case analysis, research, and current events.
431 - Entrepreneurship
1.0 Credit Gr.11, 12
Entrepreneurship is a project-based course which develops entrepreneurial knowledge, skills, and attitudes, which guides students through the process of choosing, researching, planning and operating small businesses through simulations of their own design. In this course, students design and develop a potential enterprise that will fill a need in our community. A business plan will be completed in this course. Small business leadership and management skills are integral to this course. Students will assist in the operations of the school store.
463DC – Dual Credit Honors Financial Accounting (Not offered every year - based on student demand)
1.0 Credit / 3 College Credits Gr. 10, 11, 12
Financial Accounting provides students with a comprehensive treatment of the complete accounting cycle for both service and merchandising businesses in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This course focuses on accounting systems and concepts, current accounting issues, preparation and analysis of financial
statements. This course is designed for the potential accounting or business major in college. Most colleges require two years of accounting for any business major. This could count as one of them. This course is intended for students who wish to earn college credit from Delaware County Community College while in high school.
441DC - Dual Credit Honors Foundations of Business
1.0 Credit / 3 College Credits Gr. 11, 12
This course introduces the world of business. Students will explore business events and economic conditions that affect business. Among the topics studied are business in a global environment, the various forms of business, the social responsibility of business and the functions of accounting, marketing, management, and human resource management. This course will touch upon all the areas related to a business major in college. This course is intended for students who wish to earn college credit from Delaware County Community College while in high school.
476 – Business Work Experience
1.0 Credit Gr. 12
In this course, students will use all the knowledge, skills, and competencies learned in their Business Marketing and Entrepreneurship Program courses and apply them to real world work experiences. Most students will accomplish this through operating the School Store.
